  • We assisted the Attorney General’s Department to deliver the Safe@Work Forum in July 2022 in a truly trauma-informed manner including providing guidance about printed and electronic materials, set up of the venue, event scheduling, support mechanisms for people with lived experience of sexual harassment, management of disclosures and the impacts of content on participants, education to convenors and speakers, and debriefing and supports following the event. Evaluation conducted after the forum articulated participants’ felt sense of safety at the event and appreciation of the measures used to optimise psychological safety.
  • We regularly consult to counselling, legal, case work, human resources and residential care agencies and organisation across Australia and internationally, assisting them to operationalise and implement trauma informed principles in their work.
  • We provide counselling, training, and consulting to people impacted by trauma, people responsible for preventing, responding to, investigating, and managing traumatised people and trauma impacts, and trauma-exposed workforces. This focus provides our team with a deep understanding of the impacts of such events, and an extensive toolkit for managing triggering (having trauma impacts activated by stimuli in the current environment) and assisting people with regulation (the ability to maintain optimal emotional and nervous system functioning) in response to triggering. These two skills are essential to effective facilitation of learning outcomes because triggering and dysregulation impair brain functioning such that learning is decreased.

Vicarious trauma is the detrimental effects of exposure to traumatic information or working with traumatised people. Vicarious trauma can lead to impaired mental and emotional wellbeing as well as poor work performance. Unmanaged vicarious trauma can significantly impact workplace attrition rates, unplanned absences, quality of work and productivity. Australian legal precedents demonstrate the requirement for employers to be proactive in managing the risk of psychological injury stemming from vicarious trauma and burnout.
