At Jackie Burke Psychology & Consulting,  we focus around effectively preventing and responding to traumatisation especially interpersonally perpetrated trauma including violence, abuse, harassment, and bullying. We have a strong reputation for such work. Each member of our team is not only trauma-informed (able to deliver services using principles that seek to avoid exacerbating trauma impacts) but also trauma specialist (specialising in effectively identifying and resolving trauma impacts), and we have a combined 85 years of experience delivering training programs and working clinically with people who have been subjected to violence, abuse, harassment or bullying. This experience provides us with a rich understanding of the impacts of such events as well as extensive experience at managing triggering, facilitating active and effective participation in our services. 

Meet our team

Jackie Burke is a fully registered psychologist with over 20 years of experience in counselling, research, teaching and consulting. She is an award-winning researcher, a published author and a sought-after trainer and consultant. She holds an adjunct position at Western Sydney University where she teaches in the post-graduate psychology programs.

After holding senior management roles for over 15 years, Jackie established Jackie Burke Psychology & Consulting to provide dynamic and hearted supports to individuals, teams and organizations. She is passionate about helping people to optimize their wellbeing, strength and ability to lead whether that be in their own life or leading others. Jackie regularly works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, people from CALD backgrounds, and LGB clients. Jackie leads a team of counselling professionals who provide supports via telehealth and in-person to people affected by:

  • Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex PTSD
  • Dissociative Disorders
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Vicarious trauma and Burnout
  • Violence, abuse, harassment and/or neglect

Jackie uses a variety of therapeutic approaches including Systemic Therapies, Narrative Approaches, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.

Amanda is a fully qualified Social Worker (Masters of Social Work) with additional qualifications in counselling. She has over fifteen years of experience building integrity and professionalism within the human services sectors including government, non-government, medical, and legal sectors as both a therapist and clinical supervisor. 

Her high level interpersonal and liaison skills have been developed by working within multi-disciplinary teams of psychologists, social workers, counsellors and other professionals and she is able to demonstrate her experience in providing consistent, accountable and professional services to a diverse range of clients including perpetrators of domestic violence and sexual assault, people experiencing complex trauma, people with a disability including mental health issues and drug and alcohol misuse. 

She also has more than 15 years of  experience in supervisory and leadership roles including supervising large clinical teams and has a strong commitment to customer service to achieve set goals and outcomes.

Amanda’s approach focuses on evidence-based treatments personalised to meet the needs of each individual in a caring and supportive manner. Amanda regularly works with people of diverse cultures including LGB clients

Laura is a graduate counsellor with over 15 years of experience working within Australia and the USA. Laura draws from a range of therapeutic models including EMDR to address an individual’s needs and equip them with the skills to thrive throughout life’s challenges. It is through a non-judgmental supportive approach that her clients can make positive shifts in their lives.

Laura regularly works LGBTQIA clients.

Laura is also part of the Jackie Burke Psychology & Consulting training team.

Laura’s areas of focus are:

  • Trauma recovery – collaborating with individuals who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, domestic and/or family violence, bullying and other traumatic experiences,

Eva is a registered Psychologist with over 15 years’ counselling experience. She has worked extensively with Jackie over the years in addition to counselling individuals she has also provided clinical supervision to other counsellors.

Eva uses a person-centred approach to address individual needs and challenges.

She is trained in CBT, EMDR, ACT, Intention Tapping and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy with a focus on helping individuals who have experienced trauma.

Eva has clinic appointments on Tuesday afternoons and telehealth appointments on Wednesday mornings.

Appointments are generally available within two-weeks.

 

Kyla is a Social Worker and Counsellor with over 15 years’ experience and has worked in New Zealand, Australia, England, and South-East Asia. Kyla has also recently completed her Masters in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Her experience lies within Child Protection, Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence in both government and non-government positions. Kyla is now a part of the Jackie Burke Psychology & Consulting Training Team as an education provider.

Kyla’s focus lies within support of trauma – both for individuals and professionals. She focuses now on providing Vicarious Trauma education and support for professionals within the health, clinical and human services setting. Kyla believes that education and knowledge enhancement are fundamental for professionals, as is the understanding of trauma impacts for those working in the trauma space.

Taylor is currently completing her fifth year of her Honours Double Degree of Psychology and Neuroscience.

As Practice and Consultations Manager, Taylor leads the Jackie Burke Psychology & Consulting administrative team ensuring that the client and customer experience is exemplary. She is passionate about working with individuals and organisations holistically. She is a real whizz with technology and is enthusiastic about client care. Taylor is committed to supporting you with any administrative requirements you have, to help ensure your journey is as smooth as possible. After completing her studies, her ambition is to establish a career as a Clinical Psychologist working with children of all ages.

Both Taylor and Trinity will aim to work with you to support you as needed.

Tiana is completing her psychology studies. As Research Assistant for the team, Tiana applies analytical and resourceful methodology to her work. Her ambition is to use her psychology studies to develop effective educational programs for children. 

Aphro started at Jackie Burke Psychology & Consulting as a trainee therapy dog in early 2021. Her accreditation was interrupted by the pandemic, but she is hopeful about finishing her qualification soon. She provides an enthusiastic welcome to clients, reminds them to find joy in little things, and is a master nervous system regulator. She can be seen in the background whilst working by telehealth, but she really prefers working in-person.

Trinity is currently in her second year of Social Work studies.

As Customer Experience Officer or CEO Trinity provides dynamic reception support to our clients and the team, with a warm and approachable demeanour that enhances client interactions. She is dedicated to assisting with any administrative needs to ensure a seamless experience for you. After completing her studies, she is excited to establish a career as a Social Worker.
